Vases from Great Britain

My collection

Hyacinth and Bulb Vases from Great Britain

Examples of British vases, as published in a 1989 sales catalogue of hyacinth vases by Asprey’s of London. I wish to thank John Smith – the publisher – for sending me an original catalogue. The two belly shaped vases (second and fourth from the right) were probably made in Bohemia for the British market. For more vases of this type, please look at the chapter on Bohemian vases. In the chapter on hyacinth vases from Holland, vases can be found that were also sold in Britain.

Footed hyacinth vases are rare in Britain. These three are attributed to the Holyrood Glassworks of Edinburgh and date from around 1900.

A matching pair of hyacinth vases that were offered in catalogues as model: The Queen. Possibly these vases with enamel painting were made in Bohemia for the British market.

These vases can usually be acquired in Britain and some in the United States. Probably most of them were manufactured for the British market in Bohemia ( now for the greater part the Czech Republic).
